Shree Irkhu Secondary School is a public community school in Irkhu, Chautara Sangachok Gadhi Municipality–8, Sindhupalchok, Nepal. Established in 1959 AD (2016 B.S.), the school has been a center of education for the local community for more than six decades, offering children and young people access to schooling from the early years through secondary and higher-secondary levels.

What began as a small local school gradually grew alongside the Irkhu community itself. As the number of students increased, the school steadily improved its facilities, with a major school building constructed with support from Nepalhilfe Beilngries, a German organization that has long contributed to education in the region. The building was expanded further in 2010 as enrollment continued to grow.

One of the most difficult chapters in the school's history came with the devastating 2015 Nepal earthquake. Sindhupalchok was among the districts hit hardest, and Shree Irkhu Secondary School suffered severe damage — its buildings became unsafe, forcing students and teachers into temporary classrooms made from tents and corrugated iron sheets. Despite these extremely difficult conditions, the school community refused to let the disaster stop education. Classes continued in these temporary surroundings while reconstruction efforts got underway, and the earthquake became a defining moment that demonstrated the resilience of the school's students, teachers, parents, and wider community.

Following the earthquake, extensive reconstruction was carried out with support from development partners, the local community, parents, and local authorities, gradually transforming the school into a safer, more modern environment. Further expansion continued in the years after, with a significant extension completed in 2022 — growing what was once a small village school into a much larger institution serving hundreds of students.

Today, Shree Irkhu Secondary School provides education from Early Childhood Development (ECD) through Grade 12, with its Grade 11–12 Education and Management programs affiliated with the National Examination Board (NEB). The school continues to strengthen its learning environment with spacious classrooms, computer and science laboratories, a library, and multimedia-supported learning spaces, alongside a strong emphasis on extracurricular activities and the overall development of its students.

Throughout its history, the school has been supported by various organizations and community partners whose contributions have shaped its infrastructure, opportunities, and scholarships. More than a building, Shree Irkhu Secondary School is a story of community, perseverance, and hope — from its founding in 1959, through decades of growth, through the devastation of 2015 and the rebuilding that followed, it continues to stand as a vital part of the Irkhu community, carrying generations of students toward their futures.
